Why Should You Visit Jennette’s Pier in the Outer Banks?

Jennette’s Pier holds the prestigious title as the oldest fishing pier in the Outer Banks. Many storms battered and bruised this iconic pier, but even after many rebuilds it still stands strong on the Nags Head Beach today!

The North Carolina Aquarium Society purchased the tract of land encompassing the pier in 2003 with the goal of renovating it into an educational area. In 2011, the NCAS constructed a building at the base of Jennette’s Pier that included rooms where educational programs highlight the Outer Banks beach and ocean environments. They also feature alternative energy presentations and several animal exhibits.

You’ll find a snack bar and tackle shop near the entrance. So bring your fishing pole, grab some bait, and enjoy the sweeping views from Jennette’s Pier in the Outer Banks.

Other Local Attractions in Nags Head

Jockey’s Ridge State Park

Jennette’s Pier in the Outer Banks and the Nags Head Beach aren’t the only fun things to see and do in the area! Jockey’s Ridge State Park is home to some of the most famous sand dunes in the entire country! There is also a visitor center and a 360-foot boardwalk that allows you to explore the largest dunes on the East Coast! Sandboarding is also a fun activity that you can try from October 1st to March 31st with an approved permit.

Bodie Island Lighthouse

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is one of the most famous lighthouse structures in the Outer Banks! The renowned design looks similar to the classic black and white stripe Cape Hatteras Lighthouse design, except the stripes create a straight ring around the stem instead of candy cane slants. The area around the lighthouse is gorgeous, so bring your camera to take photos before and after you hike up the 214 stairs to the top!
