This local charter, led by Captain Joey VanDyke, offers flyfishing experiences aboard their custom-built boat, the Fingeance, which provides the best possible view of the fish thanks to its elevated platform above the water. Offering plenty of deck space, this charter is designed for larger groups to enjoy a comfortable, relaxing fly-fishing excursion.

Old Goat Coastal Fly Fishing

If you’re used to fly fishing in saltwater, these guys might be a great change of pace! Specializing in saltwater fly fishing, Old Goat’s fly fishing tours will see you stalking and wading the shallow waters of the Outer Banks in search of redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead, bluefish, and flounder. If you’re more used to a freshwater experience, try mixing things up with this salty escapade.

When is the best time for fly fishing in the Outer Banks?

Spring and fall generally provide the best conditions for fly fishing in the area, especially if you plan on catching red drum, speckled trout, or bluefish. September through November is particularly strong due to cooler weather and fewer crowds. While summers aren’t a bad choice, the afternoon heat, as well as larger crowds, make fly fishing more difficult, meaning early mornings and evenings are ideal in the summer.
