These Are the Best Things to Do on the First Time Visiting the Outer Banks

Hit the Beach

It may seem obvious, but if there’s one thing you need to do on your first time visiting the Outer Banks, it’s relaxing on the beach. And when you stay in one of our Pirate’s Cove rentals, you’re only 10 minutes away from miles of sandy beaches that stretch up and down the Atlantic. Take a dip in the ocean, relax in a beach chair with your favorite book, or go surf fishing.

Check Out the Wild Horses

Spotting a wild horse is one of the most unique and popular sights in the northern region of the Outer Banks. These herds of beautiful creatures roaming the beaches originated from a deserted Spanish settlement in the 1500s that continued to breed. There are plenty of tour companies that give you an upclose and personal view of these beautiful creatures.

Explore the Rich OBX History

There are tons of unique historical attractions throughout the Outer Banks. From nautical history to the location of the first flight, below are some of the top attractions that both adults and kids will love in the area.

Savor Local Seafood

Did you know that OBX has a wide variety of excellent places to grab grub? You can enjoy some of the best food in the area just minutes from your Roanoke Island vacation rental! Sip your favorite libation at Mimi’s Tiki Hut before indulging in a delicious meal at Blue Water Grill & Raw Bar. Apart from the resort’s onsite dining, there are so many amazing Outer Banks restaurants to choose from!

Go Deep Sea Fishing

Casting a line out on a charter fishing boat is one of the best things to do for those visiting the Outer Banks for the first time. Roanoke Island is home to a bevy of charter fishing boats, both in Manteo and Wanchese. Pirate’s Cove Marina and Wanchese Marina both offer an array of guided fishing tours that are among the best in the area.
