One of the best parts of any vacation experience is the food devoured, so different than what you get at home, especially during your vacation on the Outer Banks. Although you will find just about any type of food that you love, it is the fresh and sweet seafood that is harvested straight from the waters that surround us that will make you believe in love at first bite. And because we like feeding hungry people as much as we like providing comfortable and luxurious roofs over their heads, we at Pirate’s Cove Realty have created this guide to the best of the best Outer Banks food tours so that you can go out and eat, then come home and retreat!
Taste of the Beach
Although there aren’t any specific food tours on the OBX right now, we are going to give you the tools to create your own, starting with our favorite event of the year, Taste of the Beach. Held during the first weekend of April and offering what we like to think of as an extended food tour you will wish didn’t have to end, this annual food and wine festival will bring joy to your taste buds. Offering wine tastings at local wineries, international food tours at local restaurants, and a deep dive into the seafood of North Carolina, you may want to wear your stretch pants while attending because for three days, you will be eating and drinking a LOT! (If you do it right, that is!)
Create Your Own Wine Trail
You probably shouldn’t be surprised that there are many places in the Outer Banks where wine rules the day, including a wonderful winery in Jarvisburg, located just 30 miles away from your Manteo retreat. Offering an Outer Banks food tour by including charcuterie boxes, Sanctuary Vineyards, 7005 Caratoke Highway, is where you can begin your voyage on your Build Your Own Wine Trail. OBX Winery & Hop n’ Grapes, in Kill Devil Hills, can be your next tasting spot, then bring it back home to Manteo with a visit to Vineyards on the Scuppernong!
BYOBT (Build Your Own Brewery Tour)
Our next taste of the Outer Banks Food Tour (and beverage!) is a Build Your Own Brewery Tour, which should always begin and end with the Outer Banks Brewing Station located in Kill Devil Hills. The first wind-powered brewpub in the US, they even have their own windmill planted in the “backyard” of the brewery and offer a full lunch, dinner, and kids’ menu. Other breweries you shouldn’t miss on your BYOBT include Lost Colony Brewery in Nags Head (waterfront but no food) and Northern Outer Banks Brewing Company in Corolla (snacks for sale.)
We Hope you Can Dig Into These Outer Banks Food Tours
Your OBX food tours will add a delicious appeal to your vacation experiences and can continue in your Pirate’s Cove Realty vacation escape. Fully equipped kitchens make cooking fun, and stocking your fridge with foods picked up at local farmers markets will be an adventure that is both relaxing and yummy.
